Role                       Product Design Engineer

Salary                   £20,000 - £25,000 D.O.E p.a. plus bonus, company pension

Hours of work     9.00 – 5.30, Monday - Friday

Reporting to        Project Manager

Location               Head Office – Newbridge, Edinburgh

Origin Fitness is a UK based distributor and manufacturer of commercial fitness equipment. Origin works with both distributors and commercial operators to combine both equipment provision and a range of support services which include gym design, marketing, training and servicing.

The company is currently looking to grow its market share in the UK and internationally, with product design a key part in the company’s strategy towards achieving this. 

Job Description

Origin Fitness is seeking a motivated individual to join its product department. The Product Design Engineer will be tasked with delivering project briefs on time and on budget working closely with the marketing team. The ideal candidate will have one year’s experience working in a product design related role.

Responsibilities

  • Work with product, sales and marketing teams to innovate and further develop the product range
  • Carry out in-depth product & industry research & analysis
  • Design and develop new equipment adhering to product briefs
  • Improve the performance and design of existing products and overseeing production and packaging of final products.
  • Take concept drawings and designs & produce concise 3D Models, manufacturing drawings and product specifications
  • Liaising with relevant teams and suppliers throughout the product development process
  • Adhering to the product development process and product strategy
  • Ensure proper reporting and design records are kept

Essential Skills and Competencies

  • Experience and understanding of mechanical design work, manufacturing processes and materials
  • Knowledge and experience with utilization of CAD/3D Modelling Software – preferably Autodesk Inventor and 3DS Max
  • Experience using Adobe Creative Suite – predominantly Photoshop and Illustrator
  • Solid knowledge of Windows & Microsoft Office applications – predominantly Word and Excel
  • Solid understanding of the design process
  • Efficient with attention to detail
  • Teamwork and an enthusiasm for learning and sharing
  • Ability to manage own time and workload
  • Good communication skills

Desirable Skills and Competencies

  • Product Photography
  • Liaising with suppliers and manufacturers
  • Product visualisation skills

Job Description

This is a hands-on role that will require you to be highly motivated with a tenacious, enthusiastic attitude.  You will be planning and executing a sales strategy to grow your area and maximise existing relationships. The position requires a result driven individual who delivers success under pressure.

Responsibilities

  • To develop and deliver a strategic approach to managing a specified region and customer base
  • Build and manage customer relationships to inspire customers to partner Origin Fitness.
  • Produce and present tailored proposals to deliver best value to customers
  • Design the best in innovative fitness spaces.
  • Be an expert within the fitness industry on all trends, customers and competitors
  • Work with internal departments to ensure the very highest levels of customer experience
  • Work with our company Salesforce CRM system to manage all customer communication and pipeline activity consistently and professionally
  • To provide a detailed monthly sales report and monthly activity plan as part of a regional strategy
  • Look for opportunities and partnerships that align to our company core values to maximise our brand awareness
  • Attend and support our company exhibitions at industry trade shows
  • Input into our inhouse product design team with innovative ideas for new products
