Over the past two years Origin Fitness has been working in partnership with North Lanarkshire Leisure (NLL) to roll out a new generation of fitness facilities across their 18 sites. Some of the most extensive refurbishment projects took place at flagship sites including NLL’s Time Capsule, Aquatec, and Tryst centres.

Working in Partnership

This partnership’s success to date has depended on an exceptionally strong relationship between account managers and the team at NLL. The Origin Fitness account manager has worked alongside key individuals at NLL, Origin Fitness' order fulfilment team, marketing team and service departments to make sure that every one of these projects has been delivered on time, budget and to the required standard.

Flooring Projects

At each of the facilities refurbished, there has been a requirement for specialist flooring solutions. Every facility is slightly unique, even within the NLL estate, so ensuring a thorough assessment and site survey is carried out is always the first step taken.

As well as assessing each room or zone as its own small project, understanding more about the intended usage of each area in the gym is crucial. Fit for purpose flooring solutions depend completely on the equipment being used and activity taking place.

Flooring Products

Some of the main fitness spaces at NLL focus on functional training. For these spaces Origin Fitness installed Rephouse Neoflex Duo flooring. One advantage of this resilient rubber floor covering is its 100% EPDM top layer, which ensures a smooth surface which is ideal for studio floors. Unlike a wood sprung studio floor, the rubber base layer provides some impact absorption making it more pleasant for groundwork and bodyweight movements.

NLL’s functional flooring was customised to include their logo and functional floor markings to fit around the equipment being installed.

In free weights spaces Origin Fitness installed Rephouse High Impact 40mm flooring. These tiles provide the noise reduction, impact absorption and equipment protection required at busy sites like those run by NLL. In some of the free weights spaces, different coloured tiles were used to create a platform effect.

Throughout the facilities all flooring was chosen from an extensive range of colours. The grey, black and red options chosen were consistent with NLL’s branding and where possible Anytime Leisure also incorporated custom branding.

Future Projects

The partnership between NLL and Origin Fitness has delivered great results at The Tryst Centre, Motherwell Aquatec, Time Capsule and Wishaw Sports Centre as well as sites at Broadwood and Ravenscraig. Origin Fitness is excited to continue working on these projects with NLL and is looking forward to delivering results for members across more of their 18 facilities in the coming months and years.
