The success of Linlithgow Rugby Club and the determination of its committee and volunteers, meant recently that they were able to complete the building of a new training facility which the Club had spearheaded in partnership with Sportscotland and other stakeholder groups.
The new facility is located at the club’s Mains Park home in Linlithgow, close to the local academy with which the Club have close links through its role in organising school rugby. Origin Fitness worked with the Club to design and install a brand new strength and conditioning gym as part of the facility. The complex also has an indoor 3G training pitch and changing facilities.
Gym Project co-ordinator Rob Storey, told us that their aim was to create a facility that added value to both the Club and to the community. Although the Club will manage the facility, the strength and conditioning gym and 3G pitch will be available to other local sports clubs and groups within the community to make use of from early 2015.
With this goal in mind and to avoid creating competition in the local community, the gym was designed to give teams, players and members the specialist gym equipment and functional training facilities that they might not be able to find as readily at the other gyms in the area.
The project was funded by a variety of grants, club fundraising and a cash injection from the club’s financial reserves which had been built up since the facility’s conception back in 2006. Members will have 24 hour access to the facility through a keycard system and, while it is unmanned, there is full CCTV coverage that is monitored off-site.
The equipment was chosen to ensure that the space was as flexible as possible, allowing the Club’s coaches and players to be able to use it for functional training, plyometric work and Olympic weights exercises.
To achieve this, the Club worked with one of Origin Fitness’s partners Solid Athletix, to install a bespoke functional training rig incorporating multiple racks and overhead bars. This, along with a high quality Origin Fitness half rack, weights benches and pro rubber dumbbells created multiple stations for a comprehensive range of free weight work. The other key piece of strength equipment installed was the Impulse Fitness Functional Trainer, a highly versatile dual adjustable cable strength machine.
The equipment offering in the gym also includes a range of Origin Fitness accessories and a small selection of Impulse Fitness cardio machines. Some of the products installed were the Impulse RT500 commercial treadmill, Impulse Fitness PS300 indoor cycles and a range of Origin medicine balls, rubber weight plates, bumper plates and bars.
To protect the Club’s investment in equipment and the building itself, choosing the right flooring was important. We supplied a rubber high impact gym flooring which provides members the support they need when performing dynamic, functional and plyometric movements but also absorbs the force of impacts associated with Olympic lifting.
Origin Fitness was particularly helpful in adapting the plans to reflect changes in our budget. They understood what we wanted to achieve with the space and were able to adapt their proposal and the equipment specifications accordingly so we managed to get the right equipment for the right price.
