Falkirk FC Case Study

Origin Fitness was approached by Falkirk Football Club with the task of creating an in-house strength and conditioning suite. Working closely with the club, Origin Fitness Senior Sales Manager Dugald MacGregor turned the space located in the South Stand at Falkirk Stadium into a top-class performance training zone.

Objective

With their current centre located a 15 minute drive from the stadium, project manager Craig Campbell identified the need for an on-site training solution. With the support from the Falkirk Foundation, the project gathered the funds to create a community and publicly accessible facility that was housed within the Falkirk Stadium and supports the athletes needs, as well as those of the general public.

Design

The gym is located directly under the stands, meaning it has a steep slope in the roof and therefore created a limitation in layout options. Due to the need for large equipment such as the Origin High Performance Half Racks and Impulse Treadmills, these were placed along the higher side wall and separated from the rest of the gym with a 12m long, blue sprint track. The lower side of the room was used for the strength and fixed resistance areas where the requirement for overhead clearance is lower.

Equipment

When entering the new gym, the first stations include a selection of cardio equipment facing out of the windows. These include high intensity favourites such as the OC3 Indoor Cycle and a Concept2 rower as well as a WattBike Pro and RT700 treadmills.

To supply the club with a premium strength training solution, Origin supplied the High Performance Half Racks along with a wide variety of attachments, Coloured and Black Rubber Bumper Plates and 7ft 20kg weight bars.

Opposite these lifting zones, fixed resistance equipment from Impulse Escalate range and plate loaded equipment from the Impulse Sterling range were installed against the lower wall.

The free weights area is kitted out with Origin RD2 and Pro Rubber Dumbbells and Multi adjustable benches. Alongside these, plenty of storage solutions for functional accessories, kettlebells, slam balls and other pieces of equipment were created.

Outcome

The end result is an open and well equipped training centre, perfectly tailored to the high standards expected of both the training equipment as the athletes themselves. The layout and extensive equipment offering of the space allows a whole squad to train together and also offers the right tools for comfortable small group and solo training sessions.

Summary

We started working with Falkirk FC after we had been recommended by other Football Clubs we have supported in the past. Using this past experience has helped us create an effective and modern training environment for Falkirk’s best athletes, and we hope it offers them the training tools they require to make the most of the upcoming seasons.
